Plagiarism to me signifies an individual taking credit for a piece of literature that was not created from one’s own thoughts and or ideas.  Over the past weeks of study I have learned how to properly cite material from various authors paying homage to research performed and or discoveries made.  When citing material you prevent running into plagiarism.  I personally have created a theory to prevent plagiarism.  When in doubt always cite.  I stand on obtaining strong morals and maintaining a sense of integrity.  With that being said taking credit for what an individual has written plays into my beliefs and integrity factor method.  Revising my rough draft in last week I learned to paraphrase and give credit where credit belongs.  Using Write Lab also aids me in paraphrasing various passages that I researched, helping to prevent from taking credit for material that I may use within my paper.  Having a clear understanding of what you read, helps you better minimize from slipping and violating plagiarism for its true meaning.  I also have learned how to properly use the writing center for all of its resources in the event I need assistance.  Moving forward I will defiantly use Write Lab to its full potential in helping me perfect  various areas of improvement from a student viewpoint.

Before beginning this class, I was aware of what plagiarism was, but not to the extent that I know now.  It is very tedious work to make sure everything you write is cited.  Even when paraphrasing is used, credit must be given to the person who originally had the idea.  I did use turn it in and received a 30% similarity index, so I still need to check a few things that I was completely unaware of.  I am still unsure whether the 30% includes the parts that I have cited.  The video on how to use turn it in would not play for me, so I am at a disadvantage, and a little clueless as to what the results mean.  Quotation marks may also be something I need to address in my final paper.  I will do everything I can to avoid plagiarism because I know how serious it is.  The bright side is that I am learning what it means to write a college paper correctly, and will take much more caution from this point on.  This process will definitely influence my work in the future because I will know exactly how to cite, when to cite, the importance of an outline and bibliography, and how to utilize all the resources we are provided as students at Ashford.
