Predict the phases formed when a bar of 1080 steel is quenched from slightly above the eutectoid temperature under the following conditions:

(a) oil (without agitation);

(b) oil (with agitation);

(c) water (with agitation); and

(d) brine (no agitation).

Suggest a quenching medium if we wish to obtain coarse pearlite.
