Overview

What are the chances? You hear this question in many different contexts, from sports to weather. In this Project, you are a contestant on a television game show, and you need to figure out your chances of winning the big prize.

Directions

Congratulations! You have been chosen to be a contestant on the game show Home Free! A Home Free! contestant has the chance to win prizes to improve/renovate his or her home. Prizes range in value from $100 to $500,000—but the catch is that the contestant must use a combination of reasoning and luck to win a big prize!

The game show host, the General Contractor, will talk you through the three rounds of the game. Use the Analysis Sheet to learn the game’s rules and perform calculations about the probability of winning a big prize based on the information from different rounds in the game. Read the instructions at the top of the Analysis Sheet before you begin.

NOTE: To get credit for your answers, you must show all of your work or explain what you did in words. Make sure to use mathematical symbols, such as $ or %, in your answers when appropriate. Please round to the nearest hundredths place in all answers. You may express probabilities as fractions, decimals or percentages.
