Students will apply their knowledge of propaganda and the Nazi Party Platform to generate propaganda about topics of concern to German citizens in the pre WWII era.
You are a citizen in Germany between World War I and II. You have witnessed a series of devastating blows to your great nation, but you still want to see Germany rise to greatness again in your lifetime. Towards the end of the 1920s one man, Adolf Hitler, seems to be saying all the things you've been thinking since the end of the Great War. While the actions of his party seem to be a little extreme, his vision is one of German superiority and greatness.

For each of the concerns or feelings described below think about how Hitler and the Nazi party would respond. Please write each answer after each question.

1. You fought hard in the Great War and lost numerous friends. When the civilian government surrendered, the Allied forces had just barely crossed the German border! The defense of the Fatherland would have brought Germans to victory!

2. Germany was once one of the greatest militaries in history, now it has an army of 100,000 men! You had planned to spend your life in the military, now you face unemployment and an uncertain future.

3. Hitler brought up an important concern that we must all consider carefully. The Jews are attempting to subjugate the German people through an international plot to control the banking system. You never trusted the Jews to begin with and now you hear Hitler has proof of this conspiracy!

4. Your father was injured fighting in the Great War, and now with the failing economy it is difficult to get him the health care he needs. Why doesn't the government do something about this?

5. Based on the above statements, why do you think 37% of the population voted for the Nazi party?
