• Assignment: Supporting Family Literacy

  Think about what you learned about the important role that family literacy plays in supporting young children's literacy development. As well, consider the family literacy development programs you have reviewed in the Required Resources. Then reflect on the following questions:

  • What role does family literacy play in supporting children's literacy development?
  • What are some of the additional benefits of family literacy programs?
  • What strategies do you see as most effective in supporting family literacy?
  • How might you incorporate these strategies into working with young children and their families?

  Submit a summary of your thinking by articulating:

  • Your perspective on the benefits of family literacy programs
  • Effective strategies that support family literacy

  Use examples from the readings to support your thinking and illustrate the ways your understanding has expanded and/or deepened. Be sure to cite your sources.
