Pick three of those authors (Irving, Hawthorne, Poe, and Melville), and at least one of each of their stories that you read and examine the differing purposes of the authors in their use of their characters' obsessions. Additionally, also create a hypothesis as to why Romantic writers, in general, might as a group be so focused on obsession.
