• Assignment  1:

Please watch the feature length film "Even the Rain" (1hr 45 min) and write a gut reaction. It is an awesome film that combines the story of Colombus' exploitation of the native people of Hispaniola and that of contemporary indians in Bolivia. Please search for it on the internet, since it's location changes. It's also on netflix.

Also, be prepared to explain where Hispaniola is.

• Assignment 2:

I.) Please watch the 500 Nations Part 2 documentary on the Taino indians of the Caribbean (also known as the Arawak), the first place in the Americas that Columbus colonized on behalf of Spain.  It can be found on Youtube with the title "500 nations The Story of Native Americans 2" Wach the first 21 minutes and write a gut reaction of at least half a page.

2.)Bartolome De las Casas was a Spanish priest who devoted his life to advocating for the humane treatment of native peoples. Please read this very brief biography and timeline:
