Interview Questions

1. For your assignment you will develop 8 “out of the box” questions for a job interview.
2. The goal is to move beyond questions like “so tell me what it was like to work at X place?”
3. These questions are meant to be engaging and show an applicant’s true colors
4. First pick a Hospitality location that exists that you are creating these questions for: IE the Hard Rock Hotel Chicago or The Magic Kingdom.
5. Write/develop 8 questions which:
   • Are relatively appropriate for a Culinary job
   • Are appropriate with regards to workplace conversations
   • Are unique to your operation
   • Within the guidelines of all federal and state laws
   • Create dialogue with the applicant
   • Force the applicant to think on their feet
   • Shed some insight on the applicant’s personality that you DO NOT normally see during the course of an interview.
6. Then for each question, explain in a few sentences, what the answers to the questions will tell you about the applicant.
7. The questions can be mathematically based, rhetorical questions, opinion questions, “if you were a ______ what would you be?” etc.
8. Again the outcome is meant to gain some insight on the applicant and spark dialogue between the applicant and interviewer.
9. To put it simply: write me a question; explain to me what the answer to that question will tell me about the candidate.
