(3) One of the most controversial methods of ending job discrimination is the concept of affirmative action. In a minimum 200 word response, discuss how affirmative action works to help ensure equal opportunity employment. Would the concept of affirmative action have helped in the case of Griggs v. Duke Power Company (1971)? Do you feel that affirmative action would have led to a different outcome in this case? Explain.

(4) Since inmates are technically “wards of the State” they are essentially denied the ability to provide basic protection and healthcare for themselves. As a result, there is a responsibility to provide basic humane treatment. Case law has deemed the appropriate level of healthcare as “adequate” while failing to specify adequate to achieve what?

Choose three medical treatments that prisons should be compelled to provide. Provide some rationale for these.

 Identify three medical treatments that are not necessary to provide and why.

 Can prison administrators recuperate from the inmates the costs associated with delivery of healthcare?

If the inmate can pay, can they have any legitimate medical procedure?

 How? And with what limitations?

(5) Utilizing the textbook and one additional CSU library resource, discuss well-known gangs and gang subculture in jails and prisons in the United States. However, you cannot use any previously mentioned material in any lecture from this class for your essay.
