Attempting to define public interest is often somewhat difficult because it may mean different things to different people. Those in leadership positions may view the public interest in terms of what best serves their agency/entity or their own career. Each individual has a societal role and obligation to support, and get support from, agencies with the obligation to serve the public. These agencies can range from school lunch programs to national defense. In the case of the former the policies in recent times have be soundly rejected by consumers. What this may suggest is that the public's interest is mitigated by the personal ambitions of some bureaucrat or politician in a leadership position. That being said examine either your organization or any that you choose to use and identify how the public is being served along and whether the leadership of the organization is devoted to public interest or their own interest.
