By choosing a particular school of Buddhism to explore more fully, you will learn about the diversity within the tradition and how it is practiced today.

Part 1

Complete the University of Phoenix Material: Buddhism Worksheet to help you with Part 2.

Part 2

Choose one of the following schools of Buddhism:

• Theravada Buddhism
• Mahayana Buddhism
• Vajrayana Buddhism
• Zen Buddhism--as a special school of Mahayana Buddhism

Write a 700- to 1,050-word paper that addresses the following:

• Summarize the history of Buddhism and the life of Buddha.
• Explain the basic teachings and moral aspects of Buddhism.
• Explain what makes the school of Buddhism you selected unique.

Use your own words.  If you use a source, it must be in quotes and be listed in the bibliography.  Quotes should be less than 20% of the word count.  Use quotes to bolster what you have learned when researching the paper.  I know that your sources likely know their stuff; but I am grading you and want to make sure you know it as well.

Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.  Have a title page, bibliography, double-spacing, etc.  If you need help, make sure to access the Center for Writing Excellence.

Format citations and references consistent with course-level APA guidelines.

Submit both the completed worksheet and the paper (2 seperate documents) to the Assignment Files tab.
