ED Tech Blog

I chose the ISTE Connect Blog, the sites directed towards educators that are ISTE minded.  The content on the site covers general ideas behind technology and encourages the use of technology in the classroom.   The topic I read up on was 5 Myths about kids and technology (Weinstein 2017).  As a parent of teens, it was rather enlightening, and I did believe in a couple of the discussed myths.  I would recommend this site to all educators and believe it has the best interest of teachers and students in mind.

ED Tech Website

The Tech & Learning website looks to be directed at district technology buyers or even teachers to look for new ideas in the classroom.   The content covers the latest and greatest technologies that can be used in the classroom.   There were dates for upcoming trade shows where districts could send people to review the technologies and see what may fit in their schools.   One of the highlights on the website was live streaming from educational technology shows in Chicago, Illinois.  The site is interesting and has numerous links to technologies that may be of interest in student’s future endeavors as teachers.

Ed Tech Organization

For an Organization, I looked into the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT).  The organization is intended for educators at all levels and is membership based requiring a fee.   The fee comes with discounts to annual conferences and other benefits.   Mentorship and idea sharing were the two I keyed in on as the main purpose of the site.   For the class, it seems it may be a bit early to sign up for these types of organizations, but it is encouraging to see that there are professional organizations for teacher’s advancements.

            Twitter

I’m following Colette Cassinelli on Twitter.  She is an educational Blogger that specializes in online books for schools and teaching sources for online research for scholarly sources.  Her site had a couple of thousand followers, and she’s from my local area and would know how the local districts operate with different technologies.  I’ve also chosen to follow ISTE on Twitter.   The tweets are informational and even include access to webinars covering technology in the classroom and numerous other topics.   It seems informative, and there are over 100 thousand followers, can’t be too terrible with those many people watching their page.
