1. consider the extensive searching of people in airports nationwide. Discuss why we have such extensive airport searches and whether you think the policies should continue or be modified.

 Make sure you indicate what modifications you would recommend, or if you choose no modifications, please explain why.

 Finally, please find a real life case of an airport search on the web and tell us whether you think the TSA was justified in making the search the way they did.  Please include a link to the case.

2. You are a corrections officer. Your friend is also a corrections officer at the same prison. One day an inmate attacks your friend and seriously beats him. Your friend is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.  You overhear some of the other corrections officers planning to revenge your friend’s attack by doing a “tune up” on the prisoner. You believe that they will attack the prisoner and seriously beat him to revenge your friend’s assault. What should you do?

3. You are a probation officer. You have been assigned to a defendant who is on probation for a misdemeanor violation. It is the defendant’s only criminal violation. As part of his sentence, the defendant is required to pay $1200 to the courts. The defendant mows lawns for a living and has a wife and 2 young children. The defendant only has $800 to pay back to the courts. Do you violate his probation even if it means he will be incarcerated? Why or why not?

4. What is your opinion of the death penalty?

If you are in favor of it, imagine that you or someone you love is falsely accused of a crime and is facing the death penalty. Would this change your view?  If so, how?

If you are opposed to it, imagine that someone you love was violently attacked and murdered. Would this change your view? If so, how? (this is a reflection paper and needs to be 500-700 words and needs to have an annotated bibliography).
