Some of the topics discussed in the assigned reading this week are adolescent depression and suicide. Read that information and use your experiences to respond to the questions.

1. The latest figures for American adolescents show that as many as 25% of adolescents have reported feelings of depression lasting at least two weeks and that teen suicide rates have tripled in the last 30 years. What factors relate to adolescent depression?

3. Use the list on pages 294-295 in your text to summarize appropriate responses to adolescents who report having suicidal thoughts. Why do most teens respond well to these interventions?

You have been hired to do a services satisfaction survey for the 10 shelters for battered women in your city. A total of 15,000 women received services in the past year and you do not have funding that will allow you to survey everyone.
