The final paper and related project are meant to investigate a specific topic in visual literacy that interests you and to demonstrate one aspect of visual communication. I have provided a few suggestions based on theories and ideas introduced in the course readings and discussions. Review the topics and discuss them with the class. Then select one subject area for your research. Be prepared to submit a final paper (5-8 pgs) with the project in Week 15. You may use the final assignment to design your own research project based on topics or themes introduced in the course. Discuss your ideas with the instructor and class so an independent contract can be developed. Document references to the text, visuals, other print sources, and/or websites.

TOPIC: Paper: Investigate the influence of computer technology on animation. How were animated cartoons and films originally made? What was the role of the artist? To what degree did claymation or cell animation dictate the aesthetics of the film? What is the difference between character animation and graphic animation? In what ways do you think computer animated cartoons and films have changed the aesthetics of animation? In what manner have changes in animation technology affected the role of the artist, the themes, characters, or the target audience? In what ways can this information be applied to understanding, interpreting and creating visual communication?
