Hello class and professor-
Based on this week’s reading and the article provided “The Real Histories Directory”, we learned about white abolitionists who were digested and appalled with slavery. Through the media of art, they showcased the cruel and inhumane treatment of the black slave. The landscape artist J.M. Turner brought this to life in his masterpiece Slave Ship. Can you believe slave owners were throwing their slaves overboard to collect the insurance money they had on their heads. The picture below illustrates this and the ship heading to its own demise. The modern day protest art I wanted to share is a picture of Trayvon Martin. He is a young black high school student who was shot dead by a neighborhood watchman. The watchman who could pass for white was acquitted of all charges due to the stand your ground law in Florida. The picture below shows the young man with a caption, we all are Trayvon. This could have happened to any of us, our son or brother.
