Claim paper Assignment
It is to be at least 1,000 words long, five paragraphs. You will choose your own topic.
One restriction on topics: Do NOT write a topic on a religious subject or use a religious argument to support a thesis. This is always a sensitive subject, and since faith is defined as belief in something unseen, it is difficult to argue. If you have an issue you'd like to choose and are uncertain about whether it it fits, email me.
At the top of your essay, below your name and assignment name, you will classify (as to Factual, Causal, Recommendation and so on) and write your Claim. Claims are discussed in Chapter 3, so read that prior to beginning the essay (it is this week's reading). Then, you will double space and continue with your intro and the rest of your essay.
Note: The term is CAUSAL, as in cause and effect, NOT CASUAL, as in not formal. If you use acausal claim, make sure it is spelled correctly.
Example:
Your Name
Eng 102 Essay 1
Claim (Causal): If Ralph Nader had not been campaigning for the Presidency, Al Gore would have easily won the election in 2000, even in the electoral college.
PLEASE DON'T PICK THIS CLAIM. IT IS ONLY AN EXAMPLE! YOU WILL REPEAT THE CLAIM AT THE END OF THE INTRO AS YOUR THESIS.
