History of Human Rights Paper (20% of final grade) and Human Rights Law Paper (20% of final grade)
In this project, you will undertake research on specific types of human rights, their violation, protection and promotion. Your research will lead you to write two research papers. These are two distinct but related research papers associated with each part of the research project.
History of Human Rights Paper: The first part of the project will begin with the WWII era and progress to contemporary situations and issues. The first part of the project focuses on key historical events that illustrate human rights violations and, therefore, have had an impact on current global human rights norms, practices and laws.
Your paper should include a description of key historical dates in the human rights movement (since WWII and the creation of the UN). Utilize the readings we have reviewed to date to highlight the human rights movement and the UN’s work to protect and promote them. Also, highlight points in time when human rights may have been violated (since WWII and the creation of the UN). Also, briefly introduce the human rights area you are considering for the next paper (human rights law paper). For example: human trafficking, genocide, environmental sustainability, food security, war crimes.
The body of the papers should be 3-4 pages in length. Papers should also include a title page and a References page. Chicago Manual of Style will be used for this paper.
*Sources for this project should include our UN articles and scholarly articles we are reading this semester, current articles gathered from newspaper (please refer to LibraryPressDisplay through the Lynn Library site at the following address, http://library.pressdisplay.com/pressdisplay/viewer.aspx) and scholarly journal sources.
Please refer to The Chicago Manual of Style for proper citation, footnotes and References format.
