Homeland Security Laws and Presidential Directives

Background Information: For this course, you are an Action Officer (AO) assigned to the Executive Secretariat of the Office of the Secretary, Department of Homeland Security (DHS). A new director has been assigned to the secretariat and is your boss. The director has not served in the secretariat previously. This assignment is based on an e-mail exchange between the director and the AO. The director has requested information on Homeland Security Presidential Directives (HSPD). Specifically, the director wants to know the following:

• What is the purpose of a HSPD?
• What are the current HSPDs?
• What is your recommendation of the 3 most important HSPDs, and why are these important to the DHS and the secretary?
