Assignment

The article “The Village That Will be Swept Away” addresses the dilemma facing a small community in Alaska.  The people living there are caught between their desire to preserve a way of life and the practical challenges of a changing world.  For this essay, consider your community – the place that you most closely identify with, your home, and write about what you consider to be its primary challenge.  How much do you have in common with the people of Newtok?  Part of your response may be the “obvious,” but this is an invitation to really think about what those people face in the future, and what you face in the future.  Essays are due Wednesday of Week 10, and should not exceed three pages.  This time please include a title that captures the essence of how you see your community and what may/will be its future.
