Field Report
Field reports may be written in an office environment withresults and other data obtained from outside the office, sometimes when literally on a field trip. These include observations made in a wildlife preserve, a branch office of your company, a courtroom, or even a restaurant. In other words, this is a report to your company about an off-site location.
All field reports include
DESCRIPTION: Write down your observations while in the off-site location
ANALYSIS: Write strengths, weaknesses, reflection, evaluation of observations.
APPENDIX: Include notes, printed materials from destination, etc.
1. Take accurate notes at your location. This includes times, dates, weather conditions.
2. Take accurate interview notes. This includes the full name and title of interviewee.
3. Begin writing as soon as you return from site so you can remember details
4. Open with a statement regarding why the field trip was made, the date of trip, and general summary of the observations or results from the trip.
5. Split your report into sub-sections. Use an organizational structure which makes sense for your particular trip.
6. Use chronological order
7. Finish with a “conclusion” section. These final thoughts can be opinion, but this opinion must be supported by the data you provided.
