Assignment 3: The Public/Private Dichotomy

It is important to know that there are distinctions between public and private institutions. Public institutions are required to adhere to state and federal laws. Comparatively, private institutions are given much more freedom in terms of the state and federal laws that guide many of the day-to-day activities in the private arena.

Understanding the significant differences between the impacts of policy and law as they relate to public and private institutions provides a foundation for an understanding of student and faculty rights and responsibilities, funding, and curriculum development.

Tasks:

After reading the articles and legal cases proposed in this module's readings, in a minimum of 200 words, post your responses to the following:

What are the legal and ethical distinctions between public and private institutions?

What are the policy considerations and responsibilities of administrators within public and private environments?
