Assignment

For this course project, you will write a paper in which you will apply a single, selected family therapy model or approach to a real or hypothetical case study. Choose one of the following models of marriage and family therapy as the focus for your project:

Intergenerational family systems (natural systems).
Experiential family therapy.
Structural family therapy.
Strategic family therapy.
MRI brief therapy.
Milan systemic therapy.
Narrative therapy.
Solution-focused brief therapy.

Provide a hypothetical case study (you must use a couple or family, not an individual) to which you will apply your chosen model or approach (selected from the models mentioned earlier). This should be a case that you create yourself. You can also use a couple or family from a well-known movie or novel, but do not use your own family or relationship. In the case study, include information such as:

Individuals involved.

Ages.

Cultural and diversity factors.

Relationships.

Current life situation of the family.

Family perspective on presenting issues and problems.

Transitions that the family or couple are undergoing or anticipating.

Individual, family, and community strengths and resiliency factors.

Keep in mind that what you choose to describe in your case study may be contingent on the family therapy model you have selected to apply. The case study should provide a rich narrative description of the dynamics occurring within the family or couple. This will allow you to provide a nuanced application of the model to the case later in the project, as well as to make general connections to your selected model in this assignment.
