Assignment 1: Blocks to Learning: Problem Solving to Enable Success

Adult learners are motivated to succeed. They often return to higher education to achieve goals that they have established for themselves. They join institutions with expectations and a willingness to work harder to achieve their goals. They often encounter unexpected problems, and resolving those problems often falls to the leaders of adult learning programs.

Tasks:

Respond to the following:

•Discuss the cognitive, environmental, skills-learning, and technological needs of postsecondary adult learners related to issues from this module's readings. As these cases illustrate, the needs might change according to the situation. Research the resources available to administrators and faculty related to the needs of postsecondary adult learners.

•Draw upon your research and experience to offer direction and resolution to the mini-cases from this module's readings. Select two cases from each chapter in Understanding and Supporting Adult Learners: A Guide for Colleges and Universities. Comment on the case issues from this module's readings as related to the learners, faculty, institutions, and policies.
