Part 2 – Individual – HOD Hair and Wigs unpacking the production schedule

·       You will dig into your role as HOD Hair and Wigs and unpack the Production Schedule, continuing on to Run of Show. You will need to determine the OHS risks, requirements and plan how to avoid these risks or minimise them for two (2) performers, one from the major list and one from the minor list. As a HOD/Supervisor you would be responsible for every character throughout the entire theatrical performance. This assessment task requires you to consider only two characters and during Act 1 and Act 2. You will need to explore the Scene Breakdown for any specific requirements that will be needed for your chosen characters (eg. in dressing rooms, side stage, on stage for the duration of the performance in Act 1 and Act 2).

1.      In your own time watch and familiarise yourself with the Australian Theatre production of the “Witches of Eastwick”, you can hire or download the movie, movie duration is approximately 2 hours

2.      Read and use the Glossary of terms (on Collaborate) when you complete your production schedule

3.      Create a theatre production/plot for two characters of your choice from the production. Select two principle characters and using the blank schedules provided on Page 15 & 16, complete one table for each character including your instructions/directions. The explanation of the table headings is provided below.

Note: A sample schedule is provided on Page 13 & 14 of this document. This is an actual schedule/plot for several live-theatre performers. Each character has many scene changes and these scene changes all have considerations around time, costume, space, equipment, location and OH&S risks.

TABLE HEADINGS ARE DEFINED BELOW:

CHARACTER NAMES

Select two principle characters

LOCATION OF CHANGE

What are the actual areas where the change will take place? For example: on-stage, behind stage screen/curtain, prompt side offstage.

REQUIREMENTS OF CHANGE

What are the tasks to be completed / done?  For example: tidy a wig, distress a wig, repair style, add an item or remove an item.

ITEMS NEEDED

What will be needed on hand to complete the task? For example: tail comb, hair spray, pins, hat, ribbon, another wig, spirit gum etc.

TIMING FOR CHANGE

Exact minutes available to perform the task. For example 2 minutes, 4 minutes 30 seconds.

LIST RISKS

Name all potential risks to health and safety that may occur during this task. For example:, poke hairpin into eye, scratch scalp with sharp equipment, sets moving on and off stage, dropping loose items on stage, pyrotechnics - potential noise, fog – low visibility.

IDENTIFY STEPS TO AVOID OR MINIMISE RISKS

Write clear instructions to ensure risks are avoided or minimised. For example: handle equipment correctly, correct use of product, spatial awareness, being responsible for all items taken near stage area, small torch in low lighting.
