Please complete the following steps in this order:

Step 1 (going upside down): Reread the essay, starting with the last paragraph and moving up. Read for things you (still) don’t know: These might be unfamiliar words; they might be allusions (to objects, events, people, or local climate); they might be concepts. After you've gone through the entire essay, make a list of at least 10 unknowns to focus on. Look for things that confuse, frustrate, and fascinate you.

Step 2 (research): Use the internet to learn something about all of the unknowns on your list. The references you use or find should be expert and reliable. Plan to spend about an hour on this step (but not more).

Step 3 (read): Take twenty minutes to skim your chosen essay one more time, this time reading the paragraphs in order, from beginning to end. Think about how your understanding of the essay, of the author’s ideas and objectives, has changed based on your research. Track you own thought process—make notes in the margin.

Step 4 (write): Now revise the representation from Previous Assignment  (or write a new one, if you've chosen a new text) based on the work you’ve just done. Be specific. Attend to both text and context. Make reference that are implicit in the text explicit in your retelling. Turn this reading representation into three paragraphs, no less than one and no more than two pages.

Please include all four parts of this assignment in your document (you decide how to best document Steps 2 and 3). Give your work a title and post it, as always,
