RESPONSE PAPER: ANALYTICAL PSYCHOLOGY
Carl Jung considered the development of our personality to be a process of individuation in which we need to integrate certain archetypal parts ourselves to become whole: the shadow, the persona, the anima and animus. He moved away from Freud's medical model of neurosis to a holistic model of the psyche. This turned 'symptoms' into parts of the psyche to explore, understand and guide us on our spiritual path. His ideas are widely studied and useful to many who work in the helping services and inspired the work of Arny Mindell who took Jung's theories and methods as the foundation of his school of Process Oriented Psychology that is based in Portland, Oregon.
