4 question about religions

Your reading for Monday, November 17, is three “articles” from St. Thomas Aquinas’ Summa Theologiae or “Summary of Theology.”

1. In the first, Thomas offers what people since him have called “five proofs” for God’s existence.

Do you think he was trying to prove God’s existence with these five “ways” as he called them?

How do these prove God’s existence if so? If not, what was Thomas up to?

2. Why is it important for Thomas that we know the three Persons in the Trinity “are of” one

essence?

3. What does Thomas say about the mind’s role in justification? Can it fulfill this role on its own,

according to him? How does it fulfill this role?

4. What do you think about doing theology in this style? Say something positive about it before you

express what you do not like. For instance, why do you think this might have been a helpful way

to address theological questions?
