Quality and Patient Safety Initiatives

Quality and patient safety initiatives are driven by many different sources, such as the government, accreditation bodies, nonprofits, and health services providers. For this Discussion, you will research a particular initiative or strategy and analyze the effectiveness of it.

You may select any of the initiatives identified in the Learning Resources, or choose one from your own research.

Analyze the initiative you choose with the following questions in mind:

• What organization or group is driving this initiative?
  
• What types of quality and safety issues does this strategy address?
  
• Who is the intended audience? What groups or types of organizations are targeted?
  
• How is quality or patient safety defined and measured? (e.g., productivity, efficiency, effectiveness)
  
• What data is collected to assess the outcomes? By whom? How is it assessed?
  
• What are the results of this initiative thus far?
  
• What steps or improvements could be taken to make this initiative more effective?

Post cohesive response that addresses the following:

• Identify the initiative in the first line of your posting. 
• Describe the initiative and summarize your analysis of it, as indicated above. 
• Be sure to explain how quality or patient safety is measured.
