The Home-School Literacy Connection

The promotion of literacy starts at home at an early age but must be supported throughout adolescence.  Watch the video titled Using Poetry to Build the Home-School Connection.

In a 2-3 page paper, reflect on the shifting dynamics between parents and their children in the intermediate/middle school years, including:

• At least two specific example of how literature and poetry can provide a connection between parents and their children at a time when children are exploring greater independence from their families.
• Select one poem or book that could provide a shared experience at home.  As a librarian or educator, describe in detail how you would encourage the use of the themes in your chosen text to help children and their families explore the complex socio-emotional needs of this age group.

At a minimum, use one external source, in addition to the course text. Remember to cite all references using APA style.
